The Bayside Environmental Committee is a group of volunteers residing in Bayside and committed to the cause of protecting the resources of the Chesapeake Bay and the environment around our community for the greater good.
Objectives/Mission Statement
For the homeowners/residents of the Bayside Community on Kent Island (MD), this committee will
- Reduce energy and water consumption by the community to save money, protect the environment and conserve resources through innovation and education. Savings would be used to minimize increases in association fees.
- Promote voluntary recycling in the community and at the clubhouse.
- Provide a forum for the exploration of ideas and new technologies, along with information and sources for new materials and ‘green’products.
- Investigate and supply information on tax incentives, rebates and potential time-to-recover-costs for green purchases.
- Introduce sustainable living practices that will increase property values and insure that our homes are competitive with 21st century housing in Queen Anne’s county.
- Provide residents with a heightened awareness of the “living green to use less, have more” lifestyle.
- Provide feedback to the Bayside community to support county and regional environmental programs and provide feedback to the Bayside Community.
Goals
To obtain LEED Certification for Existing Homes through the application of proven green technologies that will:
- Reduce utility costs for residents and in common areas
- Reduce carbon emissions by the community
- Improve indoor air quality
- Reduce groundwater runoff to the Bay
- Reduce waste, energy consumption and water and sewage usage on Kent Island
- Maximize reduce, reuse and recycle practices
- Establish Bayside as a paradigm for ‘going green’ in Queen Anne’s County (and a great place to live), then provide outreach to other similar communities, i.e. Queen’s Landing, Oyster Cove with quantifiable milestone
